Targeted Cooperative Network on Technology Enhanced Learning Environments that Support Self-regulated Learning

TACONET was founded by the partners of the TELEPEERS project in June 2004. The founders of TACONET intended the network to be an informal association of researchers, teachers at university and school and students who are interested in Technology Enhanced Learning Environments (TELEs) that support Self-regulated Learning (SRL).

In our world, where learning is by necessity a life-long activity, individuals need to effectively control their own learning. Such control requires that learners not only monitor their own cognitive progresses but also make strategic decisions to ensure productive outcomes. Also, learners need to monitor their motivational states and to cope with stress and anxiety. In all of these situations, self-regulation of the learning progress plays a vital role.

The TELEPEERS partners are conducting a peer-review analysis of Technology Enhanced Learning Environments (TELE) that support self-regulated learning drawing on examples of innovative practice at the universities participating in the project. This involves identifying factors that are crucial for the success of TELEs, developing criteria for measuring effectiveness and subsequently performing comparative analyses. Narrative techniques are employed for data collection and analysis.

Factors that facilitate transfer have been identified and case studies are being conducted on the effectiveness of TELEs in supporting self-regulated learning. We are investigating examples not only from the TELEPEERS participating institutions, but also from other university and non-university training institutions across Europe.

If you are interested in the project, have a look at our website or contact us.

If you would like to disseminate your experiences with TELEs that support self-regulated learning or to be involved in implementing one of these TELEs at your institution and assessing its impact, you might even want to join the Targeted Cooperative Network on TELEs (TACONET). Membership at the moment is free of charge.

TACONET is meant to be a platform for exchanging ideas and information on TELEs that support self-regulated learning. In particular, it intends to provide its members with information on

  • Publications on self-regulated learning (to be developed).
  • Ongoing projects (including the TELEPEERS project) (to be developed).
  • Activities related to self-regulated learning (like conferences and workshops).
