Research Project

My research project is: Developing a learning approach to develop ICT competencies in small and medium-sized companies in Costa Rica
The challenge is that Costa Rican SMEs must participate more effectively and profitably in commercial activities by using modern information and communication technologies and better management practices. Furthermore, it is necessary to take other policies to combat the obstacles or constraints facing these companies (Monge 2005).
In this context, it is proposed that this research will focus on developing a learning approach to support Costa Rica SMEs adoption and using of ICT, which satisfies the enterprise’s necessities considering the specific opportunities and constraints that they currently face, in order to improve their productivity and competitiveness. In this process of ICT adoption, action learning is proposed as the departure point.
The project aims to implement a collaborative action learning project between university, industry and government; providing the setting to develop ICT competences in this companies. The main outcome of this research project is to develop a learning approach to strengthen the innovation capabilities and the use of technology in SME, fostering their competitiveness.  Furthermore, the expectation is that with the approach’s application by the Costa Rican SMEs, the country can obtain a positive impact in its indicators of productivity and competitiveness, improving the national innovation system.
The methodology  used in this research will be the action research approach based on the Scandinavian orientation methodology (Aagaard and Svensson 2006)
